The Rat, Pepper's Pizza, Schoolkids Records, Carolina Pride sportswear, all staples of this waxy-nostalgic college town, are all gone. Since 2008's recession, downtown Chapel Hill has been plagued by numerous high-profile closings among its small businesses.
