Hardin: ACC wins big by playing its game


This is, in part, the ACC finishing its business from 2003. But it’s also the ACC affirming its unique place in college sports. This is the conference that let South Carolina walk in 1971 over the league’s “800-minimum” SAT rule. Its dalliance with football isn’t over. The charter members of the ACC broke from the old Southern Conference in 1953 to be more competitive nationally in football. And the 2003 expansion was certainly football driven.
