Delaware shortstop headed to North Carolina

Derrik Gibson, a first-team All-State shortstop last spring as a Seaford (DE) High junior, signed a national letter of intent last month to play baseball at the University of North Carolina for coach Mike Fox, starting next fall. Gibson, 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds, has been the Blue Jays' starting shortstop since his freshman season. He batted .491 last spring and had 15 stolen bases and a .957 fielding percentage.
