North Carolina recruits sticking with school for now despite Davis firing

In the hours following the firing of North Carolina football coach Butch Davis, there wasn’t a lot of fallout among the 12 current Tar Heels recruits. Not surprisingly though, there was a lot of disappointment. Arguably the most outspoken of the five recruits reached by Sporting News on Wednesday was Episcopal (Jacksonville, Fla.) linebacker Shakeel Rashad, who has been a North Carolina commitment since early February. He is one of the school’s top three current recruits. “Coach Davis was great,” Rashad told Sporting News. “I really enjoyed every visit up there and meeting with him. I feel like I have a home with Carolina, and I’m sad to see him go. But Carolina is still my No. 1 choice."
