UNC to add JuCo LB Fabby Desir to 2011 football class

Lackawanna (Scranton, PA) Junior College Coach Mark Duda has confirmed to Tar Heel Times that UNC will sign outside linebacker to their incoming 2011 football recruiting class. A signing ceremony will be held on Monday at Desir's alma-mater, Scranton High School. Desir will enter UNC as a junior with two years of eligibility remaining (three years if he redshirts).

According to coach Duda, Desir will visit UNC on Thursday, February 24th. A National Letter of Intent (LOI) will be sent to Lackawanna on Friday, and Desir will sign the LOI on Monday.

Desir also had offers from Ball State and Rhode Island but decided to wait on committing to either school in hopes that UNC would offer him a scholarship. Desir's hopes were answered when UNC linebackers coach Art Kaufman came calling.

Desir originally arrived at Lackawanna as a 6'0" 185-pound safety but transitioned to outside linebacker as he continued to grow. Desir now stands 6'2" and weighs almost 230 pounds with very low body fat, according to coach Duda.

Desir would become the 26th member of UNC's 2011 football recruiting class. When asked whether UNC was "over-signing" the 25-scholarship limit imposed by the NCAA, Coach Duda responded that UNC told him that they had "room for one more." Whether this means that any of UNC's current signees will not be enrolling this fall is unknown.

UNC head coach is no stranger to the Lackawanna program, having coached former Lackawanna star and current Minnesota Viking offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie while at the University of Miami.

By all accounts, is an outstanding student, young man and football player who had UNC listed as his first choice of colleges throughout the recruiting process. Coach Duda feels that he will arrive on campus ready to contribute immediately, especially as a standout special teams performer.
