DE Jadeveon Clowney, consensus #1 recruit, to visit UNC

Various Internet sources announced Thursday that consensus 5-star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney (Rock Hill, SC, South Pointe HS) will be visiting UNC the weekend of February 4th. Clowney is considered the #1 overall recruit in the 2011 class.

Tony Morell of South Carolina web site TheBigSpur.com Tweeted the following post on Thursday:

Jadeveon Clowney, the consensus top player in the nation, will visit Clem this weekend and UNC next weekend. Expect Feb. 14 announcement.

Clowney appears to be a long shot for the Tar Heels at the moment, apparently lagging behind South Carolina and Alabama in his recruitment Tweeted JC Shurburtt, National Recruiting Analyst for 247Sports.com.

On Clowney, UNC was in the mix early. They are now officially the darkhorse behind Bama and S.Carolina.

There is a slight ray of hope for UNC fans, however.  Clowney reportedly grew up admiring former UNC defensive end , and having Peppers' former defensive line coach, Brian Baker, from the Carolina Panthers now on UNC's staff can do nothing but help North Carolina's outside chances.
