The Tar Heels lost their No. 1 ranking yesterday, but that’s not coach Roy Williams’ primary concern. For much of the season, the defensive play has been erratic. UNC allowed Georgia Tech to shoot 45 percent from the field in a close call on the road last Wednesday. In the following game against Maryland, it shot 47 percent. Both opponents made 38 percent of their 3-point attempts.
