Mariners schedule press conference regarding Dustin Ackley

Monday, August 17, 2009

Seattle is trying to reach a contract agreement with No. 2 overall pick Dustin Ackley before a Monday night league deadline takes effect. If there's no deal, the star hitter from the University of North Carolina goes away, into the 2010 draft. And the Mariners lose a centerpiece to their long-term rebuilding plan. The team has scheduled a 12:15 a.m. EDT teleconference with general manager Jack Zduriencik. (Seattle Times)
