Mariners, Padres scouting Donavan Tate
Posted May 10, 2009
One candidate the San Diego Padres are scouting is undeniably a stellar athlete – Donovan Tate, a high school senior in Cartersville, Ga. Padres scouts have been seen at several of Tate's games, and the 6-foot-3, 207-pound outfielder could be available next month when the Padres are on the draft clock, though the Mariners, owners of the second pick, also have scouted him.
Tate has a scholarship to North Carolina and has talked of playing both quarterback and baseball for the Tar Heels. But he has enlisted baseball agent Scott Boras as an adviser, and it's believed he is strongly interested in starting his baseball career.
