Harrison Barnes scores 23, Ames advances to 4-A final


The Johnston boys’ basketball team plotted a slowdown strategy to keep No. 1-ranked Ames off the scoreboard. It worked. For 23 seconds. That’s all it took before high-powered Ames began scoring. Bubu Palo dropped in a layup to start Ames on a 52-39 Class 4-A state tournament semifinal Friday at Wells Fargo Arena.

Ames, which has averaged more than 70 points, improved 25-0 this season. If a team discovers a way to beat the Little Cyclones, it will be in Saturday’s state championship against No. 2 Linn-Mar of Marion. scored 23 points in front of a crowd of 10,000 fans. (Des Moines Register)
