Curtis Campbell becomes his high school's first Division-I signee
Posted Feb 6, 2009
Grassfield defensive back Curtis Campbell wanted to be the first athlete in the school’s two-year existence to become a state champion. But distance runner Amanda Smith beat him to it when she won the 800 meters at last year’s Group AAA state outdoor meet.
Campbell, though, became the school’s first Division I football signee.
“I couldn’t be the first state champion, but I am the first Division I football player from our school to sign,” said Campbell, who is headed to North Carolina. “So I take a lot of pride in that.”
