What They're Working On: Defense. Nine starters return, but the Tar Heels allowed 446.5 yards per game last season. Chase Page, who started 12 games in 2003 but sat out last season because of a torn tendon in his hand, should help; he'll start at left defensive tackle. That leaves only the strong safety position without a returning starter; sophomore Trimane Goddard and senior Mahlon Carey will compete there.
