Jeff Reed suddenly a superstar

When drilled a 37-yard game-winning field goal in Pittsburgh's 20-19 win over Baltimore Monday night, it reminded me of the importance of a place-kicker. Reed, who made 16 of 20 field-goal attempts for the 2000 North Carolina Tar Heels, is a remarkable story. Reed entered the 2000 season as a walk-on at UNC. His results earned him a scholarship. When his college career ended, Reed had connected on 28 of 36 field-goal attempts and missed only 1 of 67 extra points. (Durham Herald-Sun)
